You could always ps -ef | grep oracle to ensure the oracleSID database processes are running along with the tnslsnr processes. Make sure you can tnsping SID your new database and sqlplus system/password@(protected) to verify sqlnet is actually working.

Hi, I have installed Oracle Database 10g R2 on SUSE Linux ES 9. After installation, while opening the Enterprise Manager, it shows the status of the database as down and gives following error.
AGENET CONENCTION TO INSTANCE STATUS : FAILED
DETAILS: ORA-12505 (See ORA-12505.ora-code.com) : TNS: listener does not currently know of SID given in connect descriptor (DBS Error : OCI Server Attach)
Can anyone help me in solving this?
Regards Trusha
